Data quality and compliance guides for education leaders
Know what to check, who should act and what evidence leaders need. Practical guides for headteachers, college principals, trust leaders and the teams responsible for institutional data.
What does education data assurance involve?
Education data assurance is a repeatable process for checking whether information is fit for its purpose, investigating gaps and retaining evidence that action has worked. It complements your MIS by connecting findings with ownership, review and verified follow-through.
Who are these guides for?
School and college leaders, trust teams, governors, trustees, DPOs and MIS or data managers. Use the guides to plan practical checks, ask better supplier questions and decide where software adds value. UK GDPR guidance is UK-wide; the education guidance discussed applies to England. Apply the advice alongside current official guidance and institutional policies.

Why check data if our MIS already validates it?
An MIS can identify errors while leaders still need evidence that findings have been investigated and resolved. Data assurance connects checks with ownership, monitoring and later verification, including approved wider sources where needed.
Is a data quality score proof of GDPR compliance?
No. A score reflects its defined checks and assessed records. Accuracy and accountability evidence support compliance work, but do not establish that every legal obligation has been met.
Which guide should a trust leader start with?
Start with the leader’s guide, then read trust-wide data assurance. Agree comparable checks, authorised school scope and visible coverage before comparing school results.
Do these guides cover college ILR validation?
The college guide explains how learner-data assurance fits alongside reporting and funding controls. Education Insight Manager is not presented as a complete ILR validation service; college-specific mappings and rule coverage must be confirmed separately.
What are the two Education Insight Manager packages?
MIS assurance focuses on supported authorised MIS records. Wider data assurance includes that scope plus agreed files, datasets and supported external sources, with permissions and setup confirmed during scoping.
How can we see the platform?
Explore the Education Insight Manager platform page or book a demo with Education Host. Bring a priority data question so the demonstration can address your cohort, sources, permissions and evidence requirements.
